A number of regulations in the Code of Administrative Offenses are being tightened
The Georgian Dream has decided to tighten a number of regulations in the Code of Administrative Offenses. Among them:
It is prohibited to hold rallies in closed spaces and buildings without the prior consent of the owner;
Fines for petty hooliganism, vandalism, disobeying the request of a law enforcement officer and insulting them, blocking court entrances, and other similar administrative offenses are increasing, as well as the term of administrative imprisonment up to 60 days;
A verbal insult to a state political official or public servant in connection with his or her activities is defined as an administrative offense.
The Dream plans the following changes to the Criminal Code:
Public incitement to violent acts was previously punishable only by a fine and community service. The current amendment stipulates imprisonment for this action for a term of up to 3 years;
The term of criminal imprisonment for resistance, threats, and violence against police officers is increased, and this is classified as a serious crime and will be punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 6 years;
Also, sanctions will be tightened for attacks on police officers, government officials, and their family members in the case of group, multiple, or dangerous attacks. These specific circumstances will be considered aggravating circumstances;
The punishment will also increase for the fact of harming the health of a police officer;
There will be a new norm and a person who commits an attack or threat of violence against a political official, state employee, or public employee will be punished under criminal law;
Also, we will have a number of administrative penalties, including those that are being tightened.
The 5th President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, responded to the legislative amendments announced by the “Georgian Dream”, which define verbal insults to a state political official as an administrative offense.
“I don’t know, I don’t know. Throughout all these years, I have never heard anyone swear and insult, whether it was a prime minister or an ordinary parliamentarian, or even the current de facto president! No one (except for one or two) has refrained from this “decent behavior”!
However, they told me that a political official has an obligation to be patient… I can’t say anything about the patience of these people, they are more adept at revenge and revenge!!!
This only shows that they are so scared, they don’t even want to be patient and listen to what society thinks of them.
Well… how difficult it is when the fear of your people takes over you… !” – Salome Zurabishvili writes on Facebook.
We would like to remind you that the Georgian Dream party has already banned the wearing of masks, the use of fireworks, and the use of lasers at rallies. Irakli Kobakhidze signed a decree on behalf of the government, banning rallies on dozens of roads.
